JR Motorsports is trying its hand at the Cup Series, starting with the 2025 Daytona 500. But will they be a fixture in the series moving forward?

JR Motorsports announced Jan. 15 it will field a Cup entry for February's Daytona 500, with 2024 Xfinity champion Justin Allgaier as pilot.

The NASCAR team owned by Hall of Famer Dale Earnhardt Jr. will attempt to make its Cup Series debut in the biggest race with a champion driver and a partnership with a Grammy Award-winning artist.

This marks the first time JR Motorsports has entered a car in a Cup race and it comes at the event Dale Earnhardt Jr. won twice as a driver.

Justin Allgaier will attempt to qualify for the 2025 Daytona 500 driving the No. 40 Chevrolet Camaro owned by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Greg Ives — Earnhardt Jr.'s crew chief in the Cup Series from 2015 to 2017 — will serve as the crew chief for the team.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. will be an owner at the Daytona 500 for the first time in 2025 with Justin Allgaier driving and Chris Stapleton sponsoring the car.

JR Motorsports has recently shared its lineup of crew chiefs for the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series. JR Motorsports has a remarkable legacy in the racing world. It was established by Dale Earnhardt Jr., Kelley Earnhardt Miller, and Rick Hendrick in 2002, and has since been an iconic presence in the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

JR Motorsports has run in the second-tier Xfinity Series since 2006, but a Daytona 500 attempt with Justin Allgaier marks the team's first-ever Cup Series entry.

The team will field an entry in the 2025 Daytona 500 with Justin Allgaier as the driver, and he will drive the No. 40 car for Chris Stapleton’s Traveller Whiskey brand (to correspond with the blend No. 40 in the product), with Greg Ives as the crew chief.
