Lester Holt is to step down as anchor of “NBC Nightly News” after a decade behind the desk of the flagship evening newscast, NBC News and others reported. The veteran journalist, who has been in the role since 2015, is reportedly leaving in early summer.

Lester Holt, the trusted face of “NBC Nightly News” for the past decade, is stepping down from the newscast this summer. Holt will continue to host “Dateline NBC,” the network’s prime time newsmagazine.

NBC’s veteran Lester Holt, 65, is stepping down as anchor of the network’s flagship “Nightly News” broadcast in the coming months. Holt, who has been the face of “Nightly News” for a decade, won’t be leaving NBC altogether, however. In a memo to staff Monday, he said he would be expanding his work on NBC’s “Dateline,” taking on a full-time role.
