By Ailis Halligan in Tbilisi Nika Gvaramia, co-chair of the Ahali party and one of the leaders of the Georgian pro-Western opposition bloc Coalition for Change (C4C), was violently detained outside his party’s offices in Tbilisi around 5pm on December 4.

A leader of one of Georgia's four main opposition parties was detained by police after being beaten unconscious in the capital Tbilisi, his party said on Wednesday. The Coalition for Change party published video on X showing an unmoving Nika Gvaramia being carried by the arms and legs by several men down a street.

Nika Gvaramia, 48, a leader from one of four opposition groups, was carried away by his arms and legs by police officers from his party HQ in a side street next to parliament in the capital Tbilisi. Demonstrations have been held every night since last Thursday,
