President-elect Donald Trump's latest threat to slap huge tariffs on countries that try to move away from the mighty U.S. dollar inadvertently highlights the intractable contradiction at the heart of U.

The Kremlin said on Monday that any U.S. attempt to compel countries to use the dollar would backfire after U.S. President-elect Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on BRICS countries if they created their own currency.

The restrictions are on "dual-use" minerals gallium, germanium and antimony, that have both military and civilian applications.

HONG KONG — China said on Tuesday that it would begin banning the export of several rare minerals to the United States, an escalation of the tech war between the world’s two biggest powers. The move comes a day after the Biden administration tightened Chinese access to advanced American technology.

The ban is in response to the U.S. listing more Chinese companies subject to export controls on computer chip-making equipment, chips, and software.
