In 16 games since McLellan took over, the Red Wings are 11-4-1, riding a three-game win streak as they prepare to head to western Canada on Wednesday. It’s not unusual to see a midseason coaching bring better results in the NHL, but now more than 30 days in, the Red Wings’ surge has lasted longer than a simple adrenaline rush.

The Detroit Red Wings believe in themselves again, says new head coach Todd McLellan. That has made all the difference in the world.

That's one of the ways Todd McLellan described he is getting to know Detroit Red Wings players. He was named their new coach Dec. 26 and, along with familiarizing himself with the team, he's trying to find a place to call home in the metro area so that he can move out of the hotel that's been his base.

The Wings (15-18-4) head on the road to play the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday and the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday, their first excursion since McLellan was named coach Dec. 26. The Blue Jackets are 12-4-3 at home, and the Jets are perched atop the NHL standings, so it presents a good test for a team that shows signs of revitalization.

Lucas Raymond is on fire, and is the third Red Wings player to hit the 20-goal mark this season. Todd McLellan compared him to Red Wings great Henrik Zetterberg. Brad Galli has more.
