A funeral service will be held later this week for the Pennsylvania police officer fatally shot while responding to a hospital intensive care unit where a gunman had shot three workers and taken

Officer Duarte had just celebrated his 30th birthday on Feb. 17, less than a week before Saturday’s shooting, according to the York County Coroner’s Office. He had been a West York police officer since June 2022 after serving five years with the Denver Police Department in Colorado.

Authorities said the suspect held hospital workers hostage, opened fire and shot people including a doctor, a nurse, a custodian, and 3 officers.
