The FBI is probing trips taken by Shamsud-Din Jabbar to Egypt and Canada in the months before he used a pickup truck to mow down dozens of people on Bourbon Street.

Federal agents investigating the deadly attack say the perpetrator recorded himself riding through the French Quarter on a bicycling using Meta glasses.

Men with circular scrubbers and power washers followed, sudsing the sidewalks of Bourbon Street, which runs for twelve blocks, from Canal Street to Esplanade Avenue. The days following a pickup truck attack that killed 14 people have brought second-guessing and finger pointing over whether additional safety measures could have prevented or mitigated the carnage.

FBI officials said Jabbar was wearing the same smart glasses as he placed coolers containing explosive devices at two Bourbon Street locations early Wednesday (Jan. 1), in the final 90 minutes before he drove a rented white Ford pickup truck around an NOPD car on Canal Street and used it to plow through victims on Bourbon Street at 3:15 a.m.

Shortly after, about 3:15 a.m., Jabbar sped a white pickup truck around a police car blockading the entrance of Bourbon Street, where partygoers continued to wander around the street lined with bars.
