Just two months after an effort to legalize recreational marijuana in Florida failed, a new push has begun. Smart & Safe Florida has gone back to the drawing board and put forth a renewed effort to legalize recreational cannabis in 2026.

The fight over recreational marijuana is back in Florida, with advocates rolling out a revamped proposal for the 2026 ballot.

Amendment 3 fell just shy of the 60% support required to pass. Smart and Safe Florida filed a revamped proposal Tuesday, with some new changes from the hotly contested 2024 version.

The biggest marijuana dispensary in Florida, Trulieve, along with the Smart & Safe Florida committee, are already preparing for the 2026 midterm election and the future of recreational pot in the Sunshine State.

The revamped recreational marijuana measure, like its predecessor, would allow adults ages 21 and older to purchase and possess marijuana.
