The trial of three men accused of trying to blackmail the family of legendary former Formula 1 driver Michael Schumacher began on Tuesday in the western German city of Wuppertal. All three defendants offered statements to the court.

Fritsche was a close confidant of the Schumacher family for eight years, but when they decided to let him go in 2020, it has been alleged that he became bitter and hatched a blackmail plot.
