Wilcox Medical Center has reached a full capacity of patients which poses significant challenges for the scab nurses as the strike continues its second day.

The president of the Hawai‘i Nurses’ Association, Rosalee Agas-Yuu, issued a statement regarding the Wilcox nurses’ strike: “The patients of Kaua‘i deserve the same standard of care as those on O‘ahu.

More than 100 nurses at Wilcox Medical Center began a three-day strike Tuesday after contract negotiations between the Hawaii Nurses' Association, hospital leaders, and a federal mediator ended Monday evening without an agreement.

Following a negotiation session with a federal mediator going late into Monday night, no settlement on a new contract was reached with the Wilcox Medical Center nurses.

The Wilcox Medical Center nurses began their strike and will go back to work on Friday, but residents are worried about getting proper care in the meantime.
