Governor Ron DeSantis called the immigration legislation passed by the Florida House and Senate this week "grotesque" and "weak."

Governor Ron DeSantis held a roundtable in West Palm Beach as part of a series of discussions with local law enforcement as he seeks to introduce his own contentious immigration laws in the face of opposition from the Legislature.

"The veto pen is ready," he posted on X Wednesday, after having telegraphed earlier this week that the bill was doomed.

Gov. Ron DeSantis is in a standoff with Florida's legislative leaders that has devolved into a test of his power and influence over the state. At issue: a slate of immigration reforms that lawmakers named after President Trump and approved in place of DeSantis' own proposals.
