Lawmakers are worried about outdated air traffic control technology and how it will impact the safety of flying for Americans.

The incoming chair of the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee said on Thursday that the Federal Aviation Administration must take actions to modernize air traffic control systems. Senator Ted Cruz said at a hearing on air traffic issues that he plans to "focus heavily" on the status of U.

Air traffic control graduates from the University of North Dakota will be able to bypass training at a Federal Aviation Administration academy and enter the workforce more quickly. The FAA announced Monday that UND is the latest of a select group of colleges to qualify for the Enhanced Air Traffic – Collegiate Training Initiative program.

The FAA has expanded its network of collegiate training sites with the addition of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University of Daytona Beach, Florida.
