AKRON, Ohio — Akron police are investigating a fatal shooting that took place on Sunday afternoon at Patterson Park. According to a press release, officers responded to calls of shots fired in the park at approximately 3 p.m. When they arrived, they found an unresponsive 21-year-old man lying in a grassy area near the basketball courts.

An Akron 8-year-old has died in an apparent accidental shooting after police say he shot himself with an unsecured handgun that was in his home.

Akron police believe this was an "unintentional shooting" and noted that a handgun was recovered at the scene.
