The No. 10 Broncos (11-1, 7-0 Mountain West) will take on No. 19 UNLV (10-2, 6-1) in the Mountain West championship game at 6 p.m. at Albertsons Stadium. The winner will get the Group of Five’s automatic berth in the first 12-team College Football Playoff, and a Boise State win could secure it a first-round bye into the quarterfinals.

The Broncos were ranked No. 10 by the committee after a 34-18 victory over Oregon State on Friday, moving up one spot from last week. But because Boise State is a would-be conference champion, it slides into the No. 4 seed and a bye. The five highest-rated conference champs receive automatic bids, and the top four get the byes.

A victory there virtually guarantees a spot in the playoff, but one key component remains to be decided. Unfortunately, a one-position move isn't likely going to be enough to secure a first-round bye.
