Asheville shelters have called Code Purple for Jan. 10-12, activating emergency shelter beds for people experiencing homelessness.

As rain and cold mixed Thursday night, the city of Austin says 423 people chose to utilize the city's overnight cold weather shelters.

Two churches in St. Augustine are gearing up as overnight shelters as temperatures are again expected to plunge into the 30s.

After receiving community feedback, the city lowered the temperature threshold to open the shelters and started giving people experiencing homelessness more of a heads up.

Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas and Sarasota counties are opening their cold weather shelters on Monday and Tuesday.

Sarasota County Emergency Management officials have coordinated with municipal and community partners to provide cold weather shelter for those individuals in need due to the predicted drop in temperatures.

The shelter, at 3230 Brick Church Pike, will open at 4 p.m. and close at 10 a.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Volusia will open a shelter Monday through Wednesday, too. Temperatures are expected to dive into the mid-30s.
