Investigators in Coweta County say they made an arrest in one of those jury duty scams that have plagued so many communities in metro Atlanta.

The scam consists of calls coming from a “Sergeant Anderson,” who is seeking payment for a warrant for having missed jury duty, the agency said on Facebook. The scammers try to utilize names of WCSO actual employees, and sometimes even the sheriff’s office’s phone number to appear more legitimate, the post said.

Federal and local law enforcement join forces and bring charges against two people in a jury scam targeting Floridians. Florida Middle District U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg says one of the suspects allegedly ran the scam from a Georgia prison using a smuggled phone.

Sarasota law enforcement received more than 30 reports of victims of jury duty scams with losses exceeding $150K, U.S. Attorney Roger Handberg said.
