WASHINGTON, Dec 12 (Reuters) - The police chief for the University of California at Los Angeles, who was criticized for the handling of a violent mob attack in May on pro-Palestinian activists encamped at UCLA, has left the campus police department.

UCLA Police Chief John Thomas, who was blasted for badly mismanaging campus security and failed to handle a mob attack on a pro-Palestinian encampment, has left the university.

The Tennessee Peace Officer Standards & Training Commission voted Thursday to unanimously decertify former La Vergne Police Chief Burrel Davis.

Thomas was previously "reassigned" in May after the counter protests that occurred on UCLA's campus over the war in Gaza.
