Ukraine has pledged its support for the interim government in Syria after Kyiv's foreign minister met with his new Syrian counterpart during a visit to Damascus.

President Volodymyr Zelensky conveyed this information after a meeting with Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha and Agriculture Minister Vitaliy Koval, who recently returned from a visit to Syria.

Ukraine announced plans Thursday to restore diplomatic relations with Syria following last month’s collapse of Syrian President Bashar Assad’s Russian-backed government in December 2024.
